Students' Council

The Council organizes a plethora of activities.

  • Flag Hoisting on Independence Day
  • Ganesh Utsav celebrations
  • Peace Day in the memory of martyrs of 26.11.08.
  • First C.L. meet - Fantasies, Intercollegiate Cultural festival.
  • The intercollegiate festivalFANTASIES 2010’ was organized on 15th and 16th of January 2010. 'Youthopia' – the new world of youth was the central theme of Fantasies. More than 50 colleges participated in the various events under various categories like fine arts, performing arts etc. The first teasers of the movie ‘Hide & seek’ played to a live audience, a first for Fantasies. The event brought together the entire star cast of Hide & Seek with stars Purab Kohli, Arjun Bajwa, Ayaz Khan, Sandip Kocher, Mrinali Sharma and Amrita Patki sharing the stage. The festival helped the students to hone their managerial & organizational skills.

The festival theme was "Coffee Beans" & sponsors included Barista, Mumbai Mirror, Guju Ads, Star Majha, Radio City, Cloud 9, Big Bazaar, IMS, VHL and others.

  • An interactive session for students organized by the Big FM.
  • The Ganesh Utsav with the traditional aarti, bhajans and dances.
  • A Certificate Program on 'Capital Market' by Interconnected Stock Exchange of India Limited.
  • A procession for Mumbai Unplug, a programme to create awareness for judicious use of electricity.
  • A Walkathon jointly organized with Population First on the theme of Ladli, the Girl Child.
  • Rose Day celebrations.
  • "FANTASIES - The Intercollegiate Festival" - 13th December, 2008 with theme "Desi Urbania". Some of the new events held were 'Soul Music', 'Robotic Track', 'World Dance', 'Band Event' and 'Spoof a "K" Serial. Nearly fifty colleges participated in the 38 events.
Cultural Association

The beginning of the year is marked by the selection of participants for the various inter-collegiate competitions. Students are encouraged to participate in various cultural competitions organized by the University as well as other colleges. The students of B.Com (A&F) and B.Com (B&I) lifted the trophy at the inter collegiate festival organized by L.S.Raheja College for two consecutive years 2007-08 & 2008-09. The association also puts up an entertaining programme at the Annual Prize Distribution.

Film Club

The film club, "Magic Lantern" was started in 2007 with the intention of providing students an exposure to world-class cinema. It was inaugurated by veteran actor and director Mr. Naseerudin Shah who spoke to a delighted audience on "Parallel Cinema". This was followed by an interactive session. The students were more enthused as they had already watched the veteran's film, 'Sparsh'.

Gymkhana Committee

Students are selected and trained for various sports activities. Students of Junior college participate at the divisional and state level competitions. Degree college students participate in intercollegiate competitions organized  by the University of Mumbai and other colleges.

  • The Annual Sports Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the students
    Walkathon for Wellness
    Sports and distribution of gifts to lesser privileged girls.
  • Self Defence Training Programme for the girl students of the college and also for lesser privileged girls along with Women Development Cell.
N.S.S.

The Social Service Unit of the college contributes effectively to develop the humanitarian aspect of the students character. Year after year programmes and activities are organized to help students realize their social responsibility.

The NSS unit encouraged the registration of new volunteers and organized the following programmes.

  • A free Thalassemia test by the 'Think Foundation' for all Final year students.
  • Two area based projects, at Salvation Army, King Circle and Sulaba School for Mentally Retarded, Tilak Nagar.
  • The annual Residential Camp at the Ramakrishna Mission Rural Health and Development, Sakwar Village in Thane District.
    • Nineteen volunteers, one non-NSS student with the NSS program officer attended the camp.
    • The volunteers had a hectic schedule with prayer, yoga sessions and field work.
    • The volunteers worked in the field, Gobar Gas Plant, Construction site, Kitchen and the mission hospital.
    • They also attended lecutres on various topics and visited an old age home and the Village Goshala.
  • The annual Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with Rotary Club of Mumbai Uptown and LTMG Hospital, Sion.

  • The girls and the boys unit provided a 'Guard of Honor' to former president of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on 15th August at SIES (Nerul).
  • CSM Tuisha Pithadia went to Tiruvananthapuram, Kerala for Rock Climbing Training Camp along with 9 other cadets of Mumbai-B Group.
  • CDT Sherlyn Rebello was selected for CAT-I (Republic Day Camp). She was also the Best Compere.
  • Various annual training camps were held this year in which our cadets had actively taken part.
  • Cadets participated in various others social events like 'Ban on Smoking', 'Save the Girl Child Campaign' rallies and also 'Tree Plantation Programme'.

The committee organizes many competitions for the students of Jr. College - Elocution, Debate, Essay writing, Poetry writing and recitation in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati as well as in French.

Mr. Ameya Naik of St. Xaviers College of Arts, Science and Commerce was adjudged the Best Speaker.

    • This programme was about Empowering Women by Providing Micro-Enterprise Training to members of self-help groups in order to enable them to act as catalysts for change.
    • 27 women participated in this event.
    • The training was given by Ms. Vidya Kustale and Ms. Manju, members of SHG group from Purtata Mahila Bachat Gat from Ghatkopar.
  • The official media sponsor for the event was Radio One.

Published annually, the college magazine, Spectrum provides an effective outlet for young talented students to get their original articles and creative work in print. It is also a record of the important events in the college and of the success of our young achievers with a special focus on the achievements of staff of the college as well.

  • Mélange, a journal of , by and for the lecturers of the college was formally released by Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai, on Teachers’ Day 09.
Students Aid Fund & Book Bank Committee
Students who need financial assistance and books for their academic benefit seek help through this fund. This fund also sponsors some short term courses like Public Speaking for these students.
Alumni Association

The alumni association brings former students back to their alma mater year after year. Our former students gather at the college every year on 26th January. The alumni has its presence felt in a number of cities the world over, besides Mumbai where the largest number of alumni are based. Alumni have been actively involved in various activities of the college.

Students Counselling Committee and Comprehensive Mental Health Program

The committee counsels students on academic and personal problems regularly.

  • Two Puppet Shows on Conservation of Water for the children of Shradhanand Mahilashram and of Sulabha School for the Mentally Retarded Children.
Grievance Redressal Cell

The complaint registers to record grievances are kept at strategic places in the college like the library and the office. Any complaint registered is looked into, both for solution and prevention by the cell.

Placement Cell

The Cell acts as a liaison between the industry and the college to help students find sound career opportunities.

Having declared this year as "The Year of Self Development" many teachers are in the pursuit to enhance their own professional skills. Some are on the verge of completing their thesis, some have applied and received grants for minor researches and some have enrolled for subject related courses.

  • Dr. Uttara Sahastrabuddhe and Dr. Aruna Pendse were invited to deliver a lecture on Indo-USA Nuclear Deal.
  • Mr. Jeffrey Armstrong, Kavindra Rishi, founder of Vedic Academy of Sciences and Art, Vancover, Canada delivered lecture on "Science and Spirituality".
  • The Annual Satyanarayan Pooja organized by the non-teaching staff
  • A general health check up (42 tests) was conducted by Thyrocare for the staff members and the people in the neighbourhood.

Having declared the year as the year of "Health", the Staff Academy initiated a number of "Health" activities for the staff.

  • An Induction Programme by Prof. Shanti Suresh for the teachers who joined the college this academic year.
  • A talk on 'Orthopaedic Perspective to Fitness' by Dr. Nandu Kishore Laud, an eminent Orthopaedic Surgeon.
  • Prof. Jayashree Giri took the initiative to motivate the teachers to follow simple Yoga and physical exercises.
  • A one day trip to Nisaragopchar Gramsudhar Trust at Uralikanchan was a very energizing experience.
  • Dr. Ashwini Nabar, a well known Gynaecologist spoke on 'Menopause : Myths and Management'.
  • Bone-Density test for all the staff members was conducted by the technical staff of Elder Pharma.

  • The ISO committee conducts internal audit as required by ISO specifications. The authorities visited on 26/02/2009 and the college was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 Certification.

  • Expert Lectures for the TY students were held in the subjects of Economics and Accounts.
  • The Departments of B.Com (B&I) and B.Com (A&F) organized an Inter-Collegiate Faculty Development Seminar on 'Emerging Trends in Banking and Finance" on 7th December, 2007. The guest speakers of the seminar were Mr. S. Ranganathan, Head of Research, L.K.P. Shares and Securities and Mr. Dara J. Kalyaniwala.
