| Seminar on “Unethical Finance and Forensic Accounting Managerial Issues and Responses” on 21st November, 2009. |
A State Level Seminar on "Unethical Finance and Forensic Accounting Managerial Issues and Responses” was organized on 21st November, 2009 in the college auditorium. The objective of the seminar was to provide a platform for intellects from the world of industry and academics to meet , deliberate and debate on this very relevant subject. The Chief Guest Dr. MoolChand Sharma, Vice Chancellor University of Haryana delivered the key note address. Through his erudite speech, he spoke of this highly informed era being dictated by globalization, privatization and deregulation, the IT revolution and the development in technology. Mr. Vilas Shinde, Controller of Examinations, University of Mumbai applauded the efforts of the College in organizing a seminar on a very burning topic and harped on the need to keep the credentials of every organization intact. The Chief Guest then released the souvenir of the seminar. The seminar also had principals, vice –principals and over 40 participants from the industry and academia.
The seminar had four technical sessions, where experts from the respective fields spoke and interacted with the audience. The first session was on ‘Frauds in Banking’ by Gyan Barah-National Manager Risk Containment Unit-ICICI Bank Ltd. The second session on ‘Frauds in Insurance’ was by Mr. S. Viswanathan, an expert on Insurance. The post lunch session on “Auditors’ Perspective on Frauds “ was handled by Mr. K.V. Karthik- Associate Director Advisory Services –KPMG. ‘Forensic Auditing’ was the topic dealt by Mr. Vijay Kewalramani - Member (Advisory Board) Indian Forensic Research Centre, Pune, in the fourth session. Mr. Eknath Thakur, Chairman Saraswat Bank Ltd, Ex Member of Parliament-Rajya Sabha was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. He appreciated the college organizing this well intended and well timed seminar . The seminar concluded with the distribution of certificates.
The unstinted support of the management of the SIES, the stewardship & guidance of Principal Dr. Sheela Nabar, Chairperson of Seminar, the untiring endeavours of the Convener, Ms. Malabika Ray, Vice Principal, the meticulous planning of the Organizing Secretaries, Ms. Saraswathy Swaminathan, Vice Principal and Ms. Aarthi Kalyanraman, Co-ordinator (B&I) ensured the success of the seminar.

| Seminar on “Empowering Women – An Approach Towards Attainment of Millennium Development Goals” on 4th February, 2006. |
With encouraging support of the S.I.E.S. Management and the dynamic guidance of Principal Dr. Sheela Nabar, the college organized the UGC sponsored one day State Level Seminar on “Empowering Women – An Approach Towards Attainment of Millennium Development Goals” on 4th February, 2006.
The seminar was held keeping in view the third goal of the millennium development goals i.e. “promote gender equality and empowerment of women”.
The Chief Guest for the seminar was Dr. Kirit Somaiya, a well known political and social activist. The Key note address was delivered by Dr. A.D. Sawant, Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai.
The Special invitees were Dr. S. D. Pawar, Director, IDE, University of Mumbai, Mr. Prakash Wani, Officer on special duty and Controller of Examination,Dr. V. N. Magare, BCUD Director .Two hundred and eighty people including participants, NGOs, invitees and teachers attended the seminar.
The first session was based on “Socio-Economic & Political Aspects”. This session was chaired by Dr. Chayya Datar, Professor and Head, Unit for Women’s Studies, TISS. The resource persons were Dr. Janak and Mr. Mc. Gilligan, founders BARLI Institute of Rural Development, Indore, Dr. Kannamma Raman, Reader, Department of Politics and Civics, University of Mumbai, Dr. Moin Kazi, General Manager, SBI.
The post lunch session was based on “Legal Issues”. Dr. Mary Alphonse, Principal of Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work was the Chairperson, Ms. Rajani Iyer, Senior Counsel, High Court of Mumbai, Dr. Reicha Tanwar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, Kurukshetra University were the resource persons.
The post tea session was a panel discussion on “Empowering Women – The Road Ahead”. This session is chaired by Dr. Vibhuti Patel, Professor, Head, Post Graduate Department of Economics, SNDT University. The panelists were from diverse areas – Mr.Satyendu Krishna-Project co-ordinator, Shakti, Hindustan Liver Ltd. Ms. Sharadha Sathe, Stree Mukti Sanghatana, Mr. Mahrndra Gamare, Project Manager, Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal and Mr. Harish Sadani, Hon. Secretary of Men Against Voilence and Abuse
The first seminar organized by the college was a great success due to untiring efforts of the Convenor, Ms. Malabika Ray, Vice Principal, the Organizing Secretaries, Ms. Saraswathy Swaminathan, Vice Principal and Ms. Minu Thomas, Head, Department of Commerce. |

The College with the unstinted support of the SIES Management and under the stewardship of Principal Dr. Sheela M. Nabar organized a UGC sponsored one day National Seminar on “IPR in the Emerging Business Environment” on 5th December 2008 at The Acres Club, Chembur. Dr. Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice-Chancellor, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai was the Chief Guest and the keynote speaker was Justice Umesh Chandra Banerjee, Former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court and Judge, Supreme Court, Dr. A.D. Sawant, Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai, was the guest of honour, Principals from various colleges like Ruia College, Guru Nanak College, Kirti College, Kamala Mehta College, Maritime College, SIES Nerul College of Commerce & Economics and Nagindas Khandwala College also graced the occasion. |

The seminar was divided into three technical sessions. In each session three papers were presented and more than 60 colleges participated. The first technical session on “IPR & Global Business was chaired by Mr. Ranga Iyer, M. D. Wyeth Ltd. And President OPPI. The second on “IPR : Legal Frame work & Enforcement” was chaired by Dr. T. Ramakrishnan, Chair on IPR, Ministry of HRD, Professor National Law School of India University, Bangalore and the third session was chaired by Mr. P. Sitaram, Chief General Manager, IDBI – Mumbai in the absence of Dr. Ashok Haldia (Director, Power Trading Corporation of India & former Secretary ICAI, New Delhi. The Convenor for the seminar was Vice-Principal Malabika Ray and the Organizing Secretary was Vice-Principal Saraswathy S. The Seminar organized with the full support of the management was highly appreciated by all the resource persons and participants. |
